Arctic Contaminants Action Program

The Arctic Contaminants Action Program (ACAP) is a working group of the Arctic Council which was formally given working group status at the Arctic Council Ministerial Meeting in Salekhard, Russia in October 2006. Prior to that it had operated as a steering committee called the Arctic Council Action Plan to Eliminate Pollution in the Arctic with a mandate to increase efforts to limit and reduce emissions of pollutants into the environment and promote international cooperation. The goal of ACAP continues to be to reduce emissions of pollutants into the environment in order to reduce the identified pollution risks.

ACAP also encourages national actions for Arctic State governments to take remedial and preventive actions relating to contaminants and other releases of pollutants. ACAP acts as a strengthening and supporting mechanism to encourage national actions to reduce emissions and other releases of pollutants.
